The ASSOCHAM in a survey found that around 60 per cent of parents were satisfied with the decision to send their wards to Delhi government-run schools and that there was a need to invest in security and infrastructure.
The survey conducted by the body's corporate social responsibility wing interacted with around 5,000 parents whose children are enrolled with Delhi government schools to ascertain their level of satisfaction.
"About 60 per cent of parents were satisfied with the decision to send their wards to Delhi government schools," the survey by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM) said.
It also noted that most parents appreciated that the government schools gave importance to improving education and the holistic development of their children unlike their private counterparts, most of whom were only concerned "about increasing fees and focused on extra curricular activities".
"Overall, about 30 per cent said that there is significant scope for perking up the security apparatus and infrastructure in Delhi government schools," the survey revealed.
Better learning environment for children, small class size, better student-teacher ratio, more responsive teachers and administrators, better discipline and frequent parent- teacher interactions were reasons cited by 70 per cent of parents for sending their wards to public schools.
The survey also highlighted that the level of satisfaction was more among parents of elementary-age children compared to those whose wards were in middle or high school.
"The purpose of the survey is to better understand the experiences of parents and examine the reasons behind their schooling decisions," Secretary General of ASSOCHAM D S Rawat said.
