AAI gives in-principle consent to Greenfield cargo airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has given its in-principle consent to the project site of Greenfield Cargo airport at Bhaini Bhairon in Haryana's Rohtak district, after conducting a preliminary site visit and pre-feasibility study.
The Defence Ministry has also issued a "No Objection Certificate (NOC)" to the Ministry of Civil Aviation in this regard, an official spokesman said here today, adding that with this cargo facility, commercial activities would get a boost in the state.
He said the Railways Ministry is developing a dedicated freight corridor between Delhi and Mumbai, covering a length of 1,483 kms. To tap the opportunities to be generated by the freight corridor, a band of 150 km on its both sides is being developed as Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), covering the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The DMIC sub-region in Haryana covers about 29,362 square km area, which accounts for about 66.4 per cent of the total area of the state, he said, adding that DMIC consultants have submitted feasibility reports for the early bird projects of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) between Gurgaon-Manesar- Bawal, and the Integrated Multi-modal Logistics Hub (IMLH) at Bawal in Rewari district.
While IMLH project would be implemented through a joint venture between HSIIDC and DMIC Trust or DMICDC, the MRTS from Gurgaon to Bawal would be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle to be floated jointly by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation and DMIC Trust or DMICDC.

"The Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation for the MRTS project is underway. Concept Master Plan of Manesar Bawal Investment Region (MBIR) has been finalised and Development Plan has also been approved by the state government," he said.

The spokesman said that HSIIDC has signed an MoU with consortium of Japanese companies comprising Toshiba, Tokyo Gas and NEC for building "Smart Communities" or "Eco Cities" in the DMIC region.
He said the state has revised the Industrial Policy 2005 and formulated a comprehensive Industrial and Investment Policy-2011 under which special emphasis has been laid on further strengthening the base of the manufacturing sector.

As many as 16,594 Small-Scale Industries and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) have been set up in Haryana since 2005 with an investment of over Rs 7,476 crore providing employment to about 2.56 lakh persons. Similarly, 115 Large and Medium Units have been set up with an investment of over Rs 2,920 crore providing employment to 20,306 persons, he added.
