Hitting out at AAP government for its regional languages advertisements in different states, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta today accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of "wasting" public money for "self promotion" as an all-India leader.
"Kejriwal is misusing Delhi government funds for fulfilling his all-India ambitions," Gupta alleged adding that "hard earned" money of Delhi people was being "wasted" on advertisements in different languages in states like Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Goa.
An RTI reply has revealed that the AAP government in Delhi spent nearly Rs 15 crore on advertisements in the print media during the 91-day period till May 11.
The list of publications which had received money from the Kejriwal government for carrying the advertisements included dailies from Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha and Tamil Nadu among other states.
"There is no logic in publicizing the achievements of Kejriwal Government in other states. This is sheer wastage of Delhi Government revenue contributed by Delhiites," Gupta said.
Claiming that no previous government in Delhi undertook such an initiative, he said that it was an "unprecedented" step by Kejriwal government.
"Delhi Government giving advertisements in other states and different languages does not make any sense from any angle," he said asking the government to "discontinue" it.
Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel today met the Delhi government's Chief Secretary KK Sharma at Secretariat and asked him for details of the funds spent on publicity on the second phase of odd-even road rationing scheme implemented by the government.
Goel claimed that "Rs 100 crore" were spent on advertisement of the scheme through various media including hoardings, news papers, news channels and FM radio among others.
He alleged the advertisements of odd-even scheme in different languages in different states including Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Goa, were "not at all" linked with the scheme and it was done "solely" for the purpose of "publicity" for Aam Admi Party.
