A two-member team of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) visited village Dabhadi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his famous 'chai pe charcha' when he was BJP candidate for the top post early last year, and heard the problems being faced by local residents.
The team, comprising AAP Convener for North Maharashtra Ravi Srivastav and Mumbai Metro Region Convener Sundar Balkrishnan, stayed in the village near here in Yavatmal district for five days from June 27.
During their stay, the AAP leaders undertook a spot study of the prevailing facilities and conditions of the villagers.
Addressing a joint press here today, Srivastav and Balkrishnan spoke about their observations and how they tried to resolve the problems faced by the villagers.
According to Srivastav, the village is mired in corruption and red tape, which is affecting its growth,
One instance of corruption was disclosed by Srivastav, who stated that a culvert costing Rs 30,000 was claimed to have incurred a sum of Rs 1 lakh by the Gram Panchayat.
There are shortcomings in the issues like supply of ration cards, job cards under MNREGA, distribution of grains under Anna Suraksha and Antyodaya" schemes and reimbursement of expenses incurred by villagers in construction of toilets under "Swacch Bharat Abhiyan", Balkrishnan said.
Balkrishnan said they have taken up these issues with the authorities concerned at the tehsil (block) level and they have assured to resolve them shortly.
