Police sub-inspector Hemant S Katkar (30) who was posted to the Arnala coastal police station was arrested while he allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from an arrested person's wife who complained to the ACB, an ACB spokesperson said.
The arrested man's wife had approached the police officer to help bail out her husband for which he allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh, which was reduced to Rs 2 lakh.
An offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the duo at the Arnala police station under the Vasai division, the ACB said, adding that further investigations are on.
