Mohammed Badshah Ansari, arrested for allegedly raping a Spanish musician in Mumbai last year, today told the court that he was beaten up in the Arthur Road jail by the officials.
"We filed an application in the court that there was a custodial ill-treatment and he was beaten up in the jail," said his lawyer, advocate Lokesh Zade.
The court asked the jail authorities to take appropriate steps and provide him medical treatment, advocate Zade said.
The court today recorded Badshah's statement under section 313 of the Criminal Procedure Code, wherein the accused is given a chance to explain the circumstances and the allegations.
According to prosecution, last November Ansari forcibly entered the flat where victim was living, and raped her after robbing her at knife point. He was arrested next day.
In the previous month, he had been arrested for robbery at the residence of actor Dino Morea, but got bail.
