Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar, who turned 91 today, will be celebrating a quiet birthday with family, friends, doctors and lawyers.
The veteran actor was hospitalised here for ten days back in September after suffering a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and his birthday celebrations are being kept low-key this year.
"He is doing fine now. His health is alright. There is not much celebration happening as only close family and friends will be there, apart from doctors, lawyers and auditors. Also, as usual, there will be stars from the film industry streaming in to wish him but that will happen after 9 pm," sources close to the actor told PTI.
Bollywood stars also wished the actor on his birthday.
Superstar Aamir Khan, who is known to be close to the legendary actor said, "I am his big fan. We all are thankful to him for entertaining us through his films. I wish him good health and a very happy birthday."
Actor Abhishek Bachchan said, "He (Dilip Kumar) is my dad's favourite actor. I wish him a happy and healthy birthday."
The actor's fans in Peshawar, Pakistan, where he was born, also celebrated his birthday at the Press Club there.
Born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan, he later adopted Dilip Kumar as his screen name. In a career spanning over six decades, he starred in a variety of films.
Thanks to his portrayal as a doomed lover in films like 'Devdas', 'Madhumati' and 'Ganga Jamuna', he was crowned as the 'Tragedy King of Bollywood'.
His other memorable films include 'Naya Daur', 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Ram Shyam', 'Kranti', 'Mashaal', 'Baabul' and 'Jogan'. His last film was 'Qila' in 1998.
The actor was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. He was also awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award conferred by the government of Pakistan in 1998.
