Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today expressed "shock" over prevailing corrupt practices in the education system as he ordered action against a school principal and a placement officer of a government-run polytechnic for taking bribes.
"I am shocked to see a lot of corrupt practices in our education system. No wonder there is so much corruption in society," Sisodia said on Twitter.
According to officials, directives have been issued to file chargesheet against Ved Prakash, the principal of Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Bindapur who had taken bribe for admission of four students in 2011-2012.
"Ordered action against a school principal who took bribes from four parents for admission by violating policy. The principal (Bindapur school) has also installed the water cooler in his office for personal use, which was bought for students," Sisodia, who is also the education minister, said in tweets.
In the other case, a placement officer at GB Pant Polytechnic was suspended for taking bribe for job recommendations on fake certificates.
"Also ordered to suspend a placement officer at G B Pant Polytechnic for taking bribes for job recommendation on fake certificate," Sisodia said in another tweet.
According to Anti-Corruption Bureau advisor Gopal Mohan, a complaint was received on helpline 1031 that bribe is taken for getting the students placed during the placement drives at the polytechnic college.
"The vigilance team investigated complaint and it was found that the training and placement officer, Deepti Mal, used to take bribe of lakhs of rupees through the coordinator of mechanical stream and a student, Roopesh. Forged documents were also used for the placements," he said.
