Popular south Indian actor Prakash Raj today adopted a village in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana and vowed to work for its development.
Raj adopted Kondareddypally village in Keshampet mandal at a programme, attended by district Collector T K Shreedevi and Shadnagar MLA Anjaiah Yadav.
The 50-year-old star planted a sapling in the premises of the government high school in the village and promised to develop it with necessary infrastructure.
Raj, who is popular in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam films, met Telangana Panchayat Raj and IT Minister K T Rama Rao here yesterday and expressed his wish to adopt the village.
The character actor explained to the minister that his Foundation is already undertaking some developmental activities in Karnataka.
Raj, who won a national award and shot into fame with Mani Ratnam's critically-acclaimed film "Iruvar", is popular in Telugu films with his histrionics.
Popular Telugu hero Mahesh Babu had also recently evinced interest to adopt his father and veteran actor Krishna's native village, Burripalem, in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh as well as another village in Telangana.
Mahesh Babu's recently released Telugu blockbuster "Srimantudu" revolves around the theme of protagonist opting to return to his native village which remains neglected for long, instead of taking over the family empire as desired by his father.
