The Jammu and Kashmir government today sought intervention of Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers Ananth Kumar to address the shortage of fertilisers in the valley.
In his communication to the Union minister, state Horticulture Minister Syed Basharat Bukhari urged upon for early action on the issue of allowing fertiliser companies to transport the soil nutrient from Jammu and Udhampur rack point to the Kashmir besides Railway Out Agency (ROA) to facilitate the farmers with adequate and timely supply.
An official spokesman said Bukhari wrote to the Union minister after representatives of apple growers' association met him and highlighted the shortage of fertilisers in the valley due to lack of proper infrastructure and transportation facilities at Udhampur rack point.
The association members said the inordinate delay in the transportation of fertilisers to the valley, especially during the peak months of the season, led to irreparable losses to the fruit growers, the spokesman said.
Taking note of the issue raised by the delegation, the spokesman said the minister sought the intervention of the union minister to resolve the concern of farmers and fruit growers regarding shortage of fertilisers in the valley.
