Admission benefits to economically backward people: Har govt

Haryana government today said it has started providing reservation to economically backward people in admission to government institutions.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Congress MLA Venod Sharma, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala told the Haryana Assembly here that the government was extending reservation benefits to economically backward people in government and aided educational institutions as well as in the recruitment process.
State government has already issued instructions on February 28, 2013 for grant of benefit of reservation to the economically backward persons in general caste category, he said.
Following these instructions, Technical Education department, Higher Education department, Medical Education department, Industrial Training department and State Council of Education Research and Training have started providing reservations in admissions to students.

Earlier, Sharma had said in his Notice that there was no instruction from the government to extend reservation to economically backward students belonging to general category.
Sharma, a former Union Minister, suggested that economically backward persons of general categories availing benefits under National Food Security scheme, be given the benefit of ten per cent reservation in admission to educational institutes as well as in the recruitment process.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Surjewala assured Sharma for necessary action in this regard.
