"There is an ongoing agitation at Subhasgram station by locals demanding more trains since 10 am," Eastern Railway spokesperson R Mahapatra said.
Due to the agitation, train service to and from Sealdah was halted inconveniencing the passengers who failed to get a train for Sealdah during the rush hours.
Train service to Sonapur and Canning was, however, normal.
Meanwhile, there was a report of smoke detection in an engine of Bongaon local near Sealdah station.
Mahapatara said it was not a case of fire but a technical glitch in the battery box around 9.30 am.
