"Patel met Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in Delhi and briefed him about the massive traffic disruption on the Golden Bridge and Sardar Bridge between Bharuch and Ankleshwar (on the Narmada river)," a release issued here by his office said.
"He urged the minister to explore the possibility of commencing MEMU train services between both the cities as it may help de-congest road traffic on the Golden Bridge to an extent," it said.
"He also informed the minister that the existing railway bridge across the Narmada, between Ankleshwar and Bharuch is several decades old. In the event of any problem, it has the potential to jeopardise Delhi-Mumbai rail traffic," the release said.
"He has suggested that the government should begin work on an additional railway bridge," the release said.
The minister promised Patel to have all these matters examined at the earliest, it added.
