AIADMK today said the NDA government's proposed economic reforms and 'bitter pill' like initiatives should not affect the common man.
"The new central government's proposed economic reforms and others, described as bitter pill (initiatives) by the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), should not at any cost further burden or impact the common man," a meeting of the AIADMK Execuitve here resolved.
Instead, the new government should work out policies with the intent of help the people face their 'new economic challenges,' a resolution adopted by the Executive said.
Party supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has been opposing some of the decisions of the NDA government including fuel price hike and increase in railway passenger fares.
The party blamed the previous Congress-led UPA government, in which its arch rival DMK was a part for nine out of ten years, for a series of scams including in allocation of 2G Spectrum, purchase of VVIP choppers, Commonwealth Games and coal block allocation, which resulted in a "collapse of the economic management," of the country.
"Due to these and the wrong economic policies of the previous government, India's exports decreased and various imports went up, following which our country had to face severe current account deficit," the party said.
It added the impact of such issues was most felt by the lower and salaried classes of people who bore the brunt of decline in the value of Indian rupee and increasing prices among others.
The party thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for constituting a Supervisory Commitee to ensure initiating the height of Mullaperiyar dam to 142 ft initially as per the Supreme Court order.
It heaped praises on its Chief Minister for a slew of issues, including the Mullaperiar issue and her government's offering of pro-people measures, besides leading AIADMK to a spectacular victory in Lok Sabha polls where the party bagged 37 of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu.
The executive, first after the party's good show in Lok Sabha polls, met under AIADMK Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan, in which Jayalalithaa, also the party General Secretary and other participated.
