The incident occurred yesterday evening in the Timarpur area in South East Delhi when the man fell on the iron rods placed on the second floor of the building.
"An iron rod pierced into the part of the body, between arms and chest and came out from the other side of his body after breaking the shoulder blades. He was lucky as none of his main arteries got affected, probably that was the reason why he remained alive," Amit Gupta, spokesperson of AIIMS, said.
The patient is said to be mentally unstable.
According to Gupta, the incident came into light this morning after the watchman of the building went to the second floor of the building for some work.
"As the person fell on the rods, he stayed pinned down in the same position till morning. The guard found him in the morning and raised an alarm," said Gupta.
Police reached the spot and the man was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre.
On arrival, he was operated upon and the rod taken out.
