Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma today said all efforts are being made to nab the culprits involved in the brutal killing of RTI activist from Jaintia Hills, Poipynhun Majaw.
Making a statement in the Assembly today, James said that an FIR has been lodged and a case has been registered by the Khliehriat Police Station.
"Investigation into the case is on and all-out effort is being made to nab the culprits," he said.
Majaw, an RTI activist who fought against the cement plants and the autonomous tribal council for embezzlement of funds, was found murdered at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district on March 19.
A wrench, used for hitting the slain leader on the head, two Rs 500 notes, a spectacle and a motor bike were also seized by the police, the Home Minister said.
The home minister said the postmortem report is yet to be received.
Social activists of different NGOs have strongly demanded the state government to ensure investigation into the case is completed at the earliest and those involved in the heinous crime be booked.
