All liquor outlets across Assam to be closed on May 19 and 20

All establishments of Excise within Kamrup Metro District will remain closed for two days from tomorrow May 19 during the counting and post-counting period of Assembly Elections.
Kamrup Metro district Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamathu issued this order today to keep IMFL,'ON'/'OF'/all Bottling plants/Breweries/all Bonded warehouse/club licenses/all country spirit shops etc, in the district where Guwahati is located, said a district administration press release here.
The order was in pursuance of an Assam Government letter and a message of the Commissioner of Excise today to keep all establishments of Excise closed for the two days, the release said.

A government release here today said the government has prohibited the possession of any intoxicants by any person or group of persons and bans sale, giving or distribution of spirituous, fermented of intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature at hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or any other public or private place on May 20 and has been declared as dry day.
All bonded warehouses, IMFL Retail off and on shops including club on, hotel on and country spirit shops will remain closed during the dry day, while during this period the storage of liquor by individual shall be curtailed.
The release said hence during the period the restrictions provided in the Excise Law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced.
Steps shall also be taken to prohibit sale of liquor in adjoining areas of the concerned constituencies so that there are no chances of clandestine movement of liquor from those areas where the restrictions has not been in operation.
Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant provision of Assam Excise Act and rules and under the provision of Section 135 C of Election rules to perspective constituencies, it added.
