Kasim Mullah, 36, was arrested by Special Staff team after a brief chase and exhange of gun fires between them.
Police got a tip-off that he would be coming near Okhla Mandi at around 11.40 AM to receive extortion money, a senior police official said.
He was spotted riding a bike on the main road, beside Modi Mill flyover in Okhla by the police team, who tried to apprehend him, but he opened fire. He was later arrested after a brief chase.
One .32 bore pistol, along with four live cartridges, was recovered from his possession, he said.
Mullah was also allegedly involved in firing on policemen on two previous occasions.
In 1998, he along with associate fired on a police team, trying to nab them in Seelampur, resulting in injury to one constable. He was arrested and convicted for 7 years, said the officer.
He sustained injuries during an encounter with police in July 2006 before he was arrested, he said.
In June 2012, Mullah and his associates had allegedly robbed Rs 14.5 lakh from a Vodafone distributor in Bhajanpura area.
His associates were arrested but Kasim was absconding.
He was declared proclaimed offender by the concerned court and a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced on his arrest by Commissioner of Police.
He has been found to be involved in 13 criminal cases registered at various police stations including a murder in Ghaziabad's Loni.
