With a 32 per cent hike in the Budget for construction of buildings in the current fiscal, Delhi Police which does not have permanent structures for 72 of its stations is likely to see a positive change in the next couple of years.
With these funds, construction work of 21 police stations which are at various stages will be expedited.
In the Union Budget, Rs 253.38 crore have been allocated for construction of buildings for Delhi Police, a Rs 81.38 crore hike from Rs 172 crore earmarked in the last budget.
Delhi Police's departmental report said that construction works for several police station buildings that started a few years ago have not been completed so far.
According to the report, 64 per cent construction work of Khyala police station building has been completed, followed by 58 per cent of Bawana PS, 45 per cent of Anand Parbat, 31 per cent of Hauz Qazi (Central) and 43 per cent of Shalimar Bagh.
Around 35 police stations have not even been allotted any land for construction of buildings, while work is yet to start in 16 police stations, according to the report.
As many as 14 police stations are operating from rented accommodation, while 16 others are running from temporary structures and porta cabins.
Besides, there are five police stations whose offices are situated on the premises of other police stations.
In June last month, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi had apprised Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh of all the issues when the later had visited the police headquarters.
Delhi Police officials hope that with the rise in budget most police stations would have permanent structures by the end of this fiscal year.
