Andhra Pradesh government has decided to construct a temporary capital to house offices of ministers, secretaries and the state Assembly complex, a minister said today.
"The state government has decided to construct a temporary capital to house offices of ministers, secretaries and the Assembly in the already identified capital area (spread over Guntur-Vijayawada region)," P Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration, told reporters here.
The actual location would be finalised in 2-3 days after finishing the ongoing soil test for construction of buildings, he said.
While finalising the tenders, the government will incorporate a condition that at any cost, the construction of buildings (for temporary capital) should be completed within six months, Narayana said.
Andhra Pradesh is building its new capital Amaravati on the southern banks of the River Krishna in Guntur and Krishna districts. The first phase of the capital is to be ready by 2019.
The proposed expressway to the capital will not affect the existing villages. In case, property is to be acquired for the highway, the owners of affected lands or houses would be paid double the existing value of their estate, he said.
Narayana appealed to citizens to submit their opinions on the draft notification for capital master plan. Their opinions would be taken into consideration by the government before finalising the master plan.
