"In a joint operation of Detection of Crime Branch, Ahmedabad and Special Operation Group, we have nabbed total three persons on a tip-off and seized 177 fake notes, the face value of which comes to Rs 1.02 lakh," A K Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch Ahmedabad told reporters.

The three arrested have been identified as Ramesh Patel, Kamlesh Odiatar and Ghanshyam Hasani.

"The seizure is significant in a sense that the person who was nabbed circulating through sub-agents, has admitted that he has infused fake currency worth Rs 96 lakh in various parts of the state," Sharma said.

"The fake currency, which we have seized from the accused, has the matching of the notes that were recovered from the persons nabbed in the recent past. And this time also, the fake notes were brought from Malda, Bangladesh route," Sharma said.

According to him, Patel was arrested during his plan to circulate fake currency in cities like Junagadh, Himmatnagar, Jamnagar and Godhra through sub-agents.

On September 12, state police had busted an international racket of FICN, allegedly operated from Pakistan and Dubai via Bangladesh route and seized 4,793 pieces of FICN the face value of which was Rs 26.18 lakh.
