AP Government forms body to promote energy conservation

The State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) will be headed by the Chief Secretary.

It will "champion the cause of energy conservation and take necessary measures to create awareness and bring about sustainable behavioural change leading to economical consumption of energy", according to its Member-Convenor A Chandrasekhar Reddy.

The SECM would devise measurable and sustainable goals with a clear action plan by involving the power utilities and other organisations concerned, he said in a release today.

It would devise best practices and methods to reduce electricity consumption in all sectors, benchmarking the best international standards and practices, Reddy said.

"The Mission will facilitate and enforce efficient use of energy and promote conservation in various Government and Government-supported organisations, covering all areas of energy use.

"It will advise the Government on the implementation of various provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001," Reddy added.
