AP: Red sanders worth Rs 50 lakh seized

Police today seized 110 logs of precious red sandalwood that are being allegedly smuggled in a truck in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, an official said.
"On specific inputs, police intercepted the vehicle at Reddipalli village under Pullimpeta Mandal. We found that the logs are hidden under oranges," said police sub-inspector Nagaraju.
He said that estimated value of the seized red sandalwood, also known as red sanders which is very much in demand in international markets, is Rs 50 lakh.
However, the driver of the vehicle escaped, he added.
