AP urges Telangana to begin admission for professional courses

The Andhra Pradesh government today requested the Telangana government to immediately start the admission process for professional courses so as to complete it by the July 31 deadline set by the Supreme Court.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao in this regard stating that his government was ready to start the counseling process for admission into professional courses for 2014-15 academic year.
Quoting Section 95 of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 which stipulated that the "existing admission quotas in all government, private, aided and un-aided institutions of higher, technical and medical education shall continue as such for a period of ten years and the existing common admission process shall continue," the AP Chief Minister said his government was ready to take up the admission process.

"The admission process into professional courses is yet to take place in both the successor states and more than two lakh students are anxiously waiting for counseling.
Students of both the states have started migrating to colleges in other states because of the delay in counseling here, causing financial and psychological burden to parents. It is also adversely affecting the colleges in the two states," Chandrababu Naidu Msaid.
He said the AP government has already made amendments to the Government Order related to admission under Category-B seats (management quota) as per the direction of the state High Court.
"Consent of the Telangana government is awaited in this regard," he added.

"I will be happy if the government of Telangana gives its consent to take up the admission process," the AP CM told his counterpart.
