Army jawan commits suicide in Jammu

An army jawan, who had recently returned from home, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Jammu, a defence source said.
"The Jawan has been identified as sepoy Kisan Namdev, a resident of Shrewadi in Nasik, Maharashtra. He shot himself at around 9:15 last night with his service rifle," the source said.
He said Namdev had returned from home on March 27 after availing part of his annual leave and must have been facing some personal issues.
"The incident is unfortunate as he had put in 18 years of service in the Army and was to retire in February next year," he said.
He said Namdev got married ten years ago is survived by his wife and a ten-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter.
"Police have registered a case and have taken his mobile phone for forensic examination," the source said.
The Army on its part too has ordered a court of enquiry into the incident.
