31-year-old Sepoy Subhash Prasad (31), a resident Siwan district in Bihar, was serving in the 68 Engineering Division and was presently deputed as a sentry in the cantonment area, SSP Rakesh Kaushal said.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
After hearing the gunshot, the jawan's colleagues rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood, the SSP said.
A case has been registered at the Mamun Cantonment police station and the army has ordered a court of inquiry in the matter, Kaushal said.
