The Army today paid floral tributes to Sepoy Manjinder Singh who was killed during an encounter with militants in south Kashmir's Kulgam district.
Singh laid down his life yesterday during a counter terrorist operation in Kulgam, an Army spokesman said here.
In a solemn ceremony at Badamibagh Cantonment, Lt Gen J S Sandhu, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to 22-year-old Singh, the spokesman said.
In a show of solidarity, he said, officials and representatives from the state government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects.
Singh was hit by a bullet during the fierce operation at Waltingu. Though he was provided first aid immediately and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital here, he succumbed to the injuries, he said.
A militant was also killed in the encounter.
Singh, who is survived by his parents, had joined the force in 2015 and he hailed from Banwala village of Punjab's Mansa district, the spokesman said.
His mortal remains were flown to his native place where he would be laid to rest with full military honours, he said, adding that the Army stood in solidarity with Singh's family and was committed to their dignity and well being.
