Army personnel led by general- officer-commanding of 15 Corps Lt General J S Sandhu today paid tributes to the jawan killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Kashmir.
Rifleman Bimal Sinjali sustained bullet injuries due to enemy fire from across the Line of Control while he was deployed at a forward post in Naugam sector yesterday, a defence spokesman said.
He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated from the post but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Hailing from village Sirukhark in Baglung area of Nepal, the 21-year-old soldier had joined the Army in 2015 and is survived by his wife Yashoda and a one-year-old son, the spokesman said.
In a solemn ceremony at Badamibagh Cantonment here, Lt Gen Sandhu and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of the nation.
In a show of solidarity, officials of other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to him, the spokesman said.
He said the mortal remains of the jawan were later flown for the last rites to Subathu in Himachal Pradesh, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours.
"In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of the martyr and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing," the spokesman added.
