"We could not produce him in court as he is being treated in Shillong Civil Hospital. We will produce him the moment he is released from there," East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang told PTI today.
Dr D J Goswami, who is attending Ahmed, said he is suffering from kidney ailments and cardiac problems which has been having for quite some time.
"We have conducted some tests on the patient. His ECG is quite normal. I think we have to consult a surgeon for the kidney stones," Goswami said.
Stating that he was "inconsistent" during initial interrogation, the SP said Ahmed was admitted at the state's mental hospital here and yesterday admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital where he is currently lodged.
Ahmed, who had been missing from Bangladesh for about two months, claimed during interrogation that he was kidnapped by unidentified people from Uttara district in the neighbouring country from where he did not know how he reached Shillong.
