Batting strongly for a debate on Article 370, an organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits today said the Article has facilitated the creation of a State within a State.
"Debate on Article 370 is inevitable. This Article has facilitated the creation of a state within a state", Panun Kashmir President, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, said at a meeting here today.
When the people of Jammu, Kashmiri Pandits, Ladhakhis and the other minorities are opposing the existence of Article 370, so what wants it to continue? Chrungoo asked, adding that the Article is not a permanent provision in the Constitution.
The Parliament is always supreme to take a final call, he said, adding, there is an overwhelming opinion against this "unnecessary" provision.
It provides a constitutional mechanism to justify the secessionist plank that the state has a separate identity. The nationalist opinion is one with the cry to demolish the wall of hatred that the Article has erected, Chrungoo said.
BJP Legislative Party Leader Ashok Khajuria said the BJP is committed to the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities of the state.
He said that the BJP has challenged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to initiate a debate seriously on Article 370.
He described the coming Lok Sabha elections as a watershed in the history of the country. There can be no compromise on the issues of nationalism, Khajuria added.
