Arunachal governor flags off 12th South Asian Games torch relay

Arunachal Pradesh Governor J P Rajkhowa today flagged off the 12th South Asian Games torch relay from Raj Bhawan helipad, where nearly 2000 students, sportspersons and sports enthusiasts took part.

As part of the relay, the torch which, came from Guwahati, was handed over to the Governor by Professor Biswajit Basumatary of Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (North Eastern Region, Guwahati), who is leading the relay team and the Governor in turn handed it over to Everester from the state Anshu Jansempa, a Raj Bhawan communique informed.

Earlier, Rajkhowa exhorted the sportspersons and youth to take active part in sporting activities and to bring laurels for the state and the country.

He called upon the sportspersons to motivate all towards sporting activities, which would ensure physical and mental upliftmenet of the youth.

While congratulating the people participating in the torch relay, Rajkhowa wished that the torch relay would inspire the youth of Arunachal Pradesh and North-East towards spectacular performances in games and sports and they in turn would contribute to the development of youth power in the country and the North-East in particular.

He conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the participants from Arunachal Pradesh and hoped that they would bring many laurels to the state and the country as a whole.

He also congratulated and thanked the organisers for carrying the historical torch all the way from Kohima and taking initiatives to carry it to Guwahati as the symbol of leading light towards the brighter world of sports and games, the communique added.
