Arunachal Pradesh reeling under flood-like situation

Several districts of Arunachal Pradesh today continued to reel under flood-like situation triggered by incessant rain over the past few days even as work for restoration of essential services was on in full swing.
Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi at a state level review meeting yesterday directed the deputy commissioners to take preventive and relief measures to restore maintenance of essential public services and minimum loss to lives and properties.
It was also decided that a request would be made to the Centre to depute team of central ministries for damage assessment immediately.
Road construction agencies like PWD, RWD, BRO and MoRTH were put on high alert and directed to initiate immediate restoration measures, an official communique said.

All concerned have been directed to assess the damage caused to public infrastructure as on August 31 last and adequate fund would be provided to the DCs and concerned agencies by the state government accordingly.
Over 60 villages under various circles of Namsai district have been badly affected by the current wave flood.

Around 600 people from 117 families were sheltered in three relief camps set up at Jenglai, Kaba and New Silatoo, Namsai Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma said.
Although water level in various rivers in the district had gradually started to recede this morning with slight improvement in the weather condition, the Noa Dehing, Lohit and Jengthu Rivers are still flowing above the danger level.

There was report of heavy damage to dyke at New Silatoo and Bereng River and erosions at many places.
A report from Tawang said that due to incessant rainfall and consequent landslides particularly in Lumla, the the DC has instructed DDMO, SDMOs and other officers to be ready to attend to any disaster.
Administrative officers have been directed to make prompt assessment of loss sustained under their jurisdiction and to submit reports immediately, while the Disaster Control Room has been activated and teams have been constituted to man it 24x7.
Road blockages at various locations at Lumla are being cleared but restoration work was proving to be difficult due to inclement weather.
