"Films depict the social situation of a particular time of a particular society and thereby have a direct impact on the society. It is therefore very important that film makers realise this and shoulder responsibility.
"The state government is ever ready and willing to support the growth of films," he said inaugurating the fourth edition of Film Festival of Arunachal here.
Speaking at the programme, Information and Public Relations (IPR) special secretary Mitali Namchoom said the reason for organising the festival was to provide a fillip to local artists and film makers and asked them to take advantage of the platform by participating enthusiastically.
Organising secretary Shambo Flago encouraged the new talents to make good films and said it was a kind of social service.
IPR director Obang Tayeng said the festival this year has 37 entries in the short film competition category compared to just nine last year.
The Arunachal film festival is organised annually since 2013. Last year a regional level film festival was held in which film makers from the entire North East region and few other states have participated.
