Arunachal signs MoU for oil palm cultivation

Arunachal Pradesh has signed an MoU with a private firm from Andhra Pradesh for taking up oil palm cultivation in three districts of the state.
The state agriculture department signed the MoU on behalf of the government recently for taking up oil palm cultivation in 5000 hectareS in Changlang, Tirap and Lohit districts with processing mills, an official communique said here today.
Oil Palm Area Expansion programme is a prioritised scheme of the Centre for the north east and is funded through the Union Ministry of Agriculture.
As per the expert committee report, about one lakh hectare area is suitable for oil palm cultivation in the state, the communique said.
