Kaur, who won a silver in 20km race walk, arrived at the local railway station from where she was taken to her college -- Khalsa College for Women -- riding an open jeep with college teachers, staff and students thronging to accord here a warm welcome.
"I am overwhelmed by my victory. At least I could play my part to bring the honour for the country," she said in an emotional tone. She said despite the odds of poverty of her family and a muscle injury, she was able to sail through.
Kaur, an MA student, became the first Indian woman to win a medal in race walk in Asian Games. She completed her 20 kilometers Walk in one hour and 33 minutes to bag the medal.
She belongs to Nikka Rasulpur village near Chowk Mehta in this district.
"That was a moment of glory. I felt on the clouds when I saw the tri-colour flying high in front of my eyes," she stated.
