INS Garuda secured the runners up position in the keenly contested championship which was held under five different categories over a course of 1.6 Km in the Ernakulam Channel with Venduruthy-Vikrant Bridge being the starting point. Six teams from all the units of SNC at Kochi participated in the regatta, a Navy release said here.
The boat Pulling Regatta is one of the most prestigious Naval sports activity conducted in the Navy on 27 feet long "Whaler" boats with a crew of five pullers and one coxswain each, similar to the famous snake boat race of Kerala. This activity is a signature event of the Navy signifying the highest standard of physical and mental application, team work, coordination and sustained hard work. Vice Admiral AR Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command who was the Chief Guest, presented the awards to the winners and runners up in the presence of a large gathering of naval personnel.
