Maharashtra police today asked pilgrims to avoid visiting ongoing Nashik Kumbh fair during the three Shahi Snan (holy dips) days, later this month and in September, so that they don't face inconvenience.
Prashant Mohite, Additional Superintendent of Police Nashik (Rural), was in the city today as part of Maharashtra police and state government's effort to create awareness about the preparations and facilities available during the fair among pilgrims from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat among others.
Addressing a press conference here, he said devotees should skip visiting the fair, which began on July 14, on the first Shahi Snan day on August 29 (at both places - Nashik and Trimbakeshwar), second Shahi Snan on September 13 (at both places), and third Shahi Snan in Nasik on September 18 and in Trimbakeshwar on September 25.
"Barring these days, devotees can make their visit very convenient if he arrives with early preparations and information which we are disseminating among people, particularly in states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat among others," Mohite said.
For the ease of devotees and to handle the crowd of 70-80 lakh people, he said, authorities have this time come up with eight more Ghats (five in Nasik and three in Trimbakeshwar) in addition to one each at both the places so that pilgrims can easily take holy dip.
"Earlier, there were two ghats, one each in Nasik and Trimbakeshwar but now the government has constructed eight more so that people participating in the big event can find it more easy and convenient to take dip during the fair," Mohite said.
