Speaking after a review meeting here, Badal directed the officials to take inputs directly from farmers and take them on board to help chalk out an effective strategy for this rain-deficit belt.
He also asked the principal secretary (irrigation) to submit a detailed report with his recommendations in this regard, so that the irrigation projects proposed for the region could be taken up in a holistic manner.
During the meeting, chief engineer of Kandi Canal project informed that out of 29 low dams, 12 have been completed and 9 are proposed to be taken up in a phased manner.
The remaining 8 dams will be taken up in the later stage, he said.
While Rs 43.84 crore have been sanctioned for the 450 km-long Kandi canal Stage-I, the Stage-II of the project was facing hindrances due to delay in forest clearances, he added.
Badal asked the officials to settle the issue with the forest department to ensure timely completion of the project.
