Bains brothers retain their Atam Nagar, Ludhiana South seats

The Bains brothers' Lok Insaaf Party, which forged an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in the Punjab Assembly polls, managed to win two seats.
Simarjeet Singh Bains won from Atam Nagar, trouncing his nearest rival, Congress candidate Kamaljit Singh Karwal, by 16,913 votes.
Bains polled 53,421 votes while Karwal secured 36,508 votes. Sad candidate Gurmeet Kular managed to get 14,138 votes.
Balwinder Bains, the elder brother of Simarjeet, won from from Ludhiana South seat, defeating his nearest rival, Congress nominee Bhupinder Sidhu by 30,917 votes. Balvinder polled 53,955 votes.
However, the Lok Insaf Party's candidates in three seats -- Ludhiana North, Ludhiana Central and Amargarh -- lost.

In 2012 Assembly polls, the Bains brothers had won from Atam Nagar and Ludhiana South by contesting as Independents.

This time, the Bains brothers' Lok Insaf Party had entered into an alliance with the AAP and had announced to contest in five seats.
They were earlier part of the Navjot Singh Sidhu-led Awaaz-e-Punjab outfit which was formed last year after the cricketer-turned-politician quit BJP.
However, Awaaz-e-Punjab was disbanded after the Bains brothers chose to go with Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP and Sidhu, along with former Hockey captain Pargat Singh, joined the Congress.
