A Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has asked the state government to ensure complete ban on private practice of doctors during "office hours" and closure of all unregistered medical shops and illegal sex determination centres in the state.
"A committee of Legislators suggested the Government to ensure the doctors do not do private practice during office or working hours. It also suggested closure of all unregistered medical shops and illegal sex determination centres under the PCPNDT Act," an official spokesperson said today.
The suggestions were made at a meeting of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, under the chairmanship of MLA Bashir Ahmed Dar here yesterday to examine and scrutinise the rules, regulations and bylaws of Health and Medical Education Department, he said.
The Committee suggested to stop the private practice of the doctors during the office hours and to adopt the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act in the state.
The Committee also recommended tough legal action against those involved in trade of sub-standard drugs, the spokesperson said, adding it advised officials of Health and Medical Education Department to provide better health care facilities to the people.
The members of the Committee - Mubarak Gul, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Kuldeep Raj, Choudary Qamar Hussain and Anjum Fazli - attended the meeting, he said.
