A dawn-to-dusk bandh was today observed here to demand a CBI probe into the beef lynching case of June 29 last year.

Shops, markets and business establishments downed their shutters during the bandh called by Atal Vichar Manch and supported by various others organizations, police said.

No untoward incident was reported.

A procession led by former BJP MLA Shankar Choudhary passed through the main thoroughfare of the town during the bandh demanding a probe by the CBI into the beef lynching case of June 29, 2017.

A fast track court in Ramgarh on March 21 had sentenced 11 cow vigilantes, including a BJP leader, to life imprisonment for lynching a 40-year-old meat trader Alimuddin Ansari on that day on the suspicion that he was carrying beef in his car.

Forensic tests later had confirmed that the meat he was carrying was beef, the sale of which is banned in the state.

Chaudhary, a former Ramgarh MLA, claimed that Ansari was not lynched by cow vigilantes but he died in custody of the police inside Ramgarh Town police station.

The investigation carried out by the state police was partial and they falsely implicated cow vigilantes in an attempt to hide the custodial death, the BJP leader claimed.

He had also organised a fortnight long dharna last month demanding the CBI probe.
