West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on International Day of Peace on Friday stressed on the need to respect for human rights and people's right to live in peace and dignity.
"Today is the International Day of Peace. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Respect for human rights, and consequently, the right to live in peace and dignity must always be respected," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle.
The International Day of Peace is observed annually on this day as the United Nations General Assembly has declared it as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
Banerjee is away on a 12-day trip to Germany, Italy from September 16.
