Barabanki clash: SI suspended, enquiry against CO, SHO

A sub-inspector, in-charge of the Ahmadpur police outpost where a clash erupted during Durga Puja celebrations and a Muharram procession, has been put under suspension, the police said today.
According to the police, the clash broke out between the two communities in Barabanki when the Muharram procession was proceeding while the crowd of Durga Puja was returning after immersion of the idols, from the same route.
The route for the processions of both the communities had been marked, police said, adding that the people were asked to stick to their respective routes.
Following the clash, the people torched more than a dozen shops and a few vehicles. More than 20 persons were reportedly injured in the clashes. The police took near about 25 persons under their custody.
Inspector General of Faizabad range Vijay Prakash told PTI, "I have ordered a probe into the matter and have also ordered enquiry against the circle officer of the area and SHO of the Zaidpur police station.
"I am also gathering the local inputs from different sources about the incident and will take strict action against the CO and SHO.
