Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today asked the Director General of Police here to study police policies and standing orders in place in New Delhi for adoption in the union territory in posting and transfers.
She stated this after discussions with the DGP and senior police officers during her visit to the police headquarters and reviewing the system of posting and transfers adopted by police in the union territory, a release said.
The meeting decided that all service data relating to the police personnel be computerised to know their period of service in one posting and also the experience police officials gained in their performance.
It also decided that the posting and transfer policy be updated, which would help make the policy transparent.
"The policies and standing orders adopted in Delhi police should bestudied to gain ideas which could be adopted and made applicable in Puducherry in posting and transfer matters", the release said.
It said the meeting also decided that a proper training policy be evolved 'so that all personnel would get refresher training in a year'.
The release said the Lt Governor intends to streamline and strengthen the police system in the Union Territory and also make police personnel transparent in their functioning and accountable.
