Addressing a conference organised here on the occasion of Maghi, Badal said a "Confiscation of Drug Dealers Property Act" should be introduced in the Punjab Assembly which would allow confiscation of movable and immovable property of anyone convicted in the drugs trade.
Further, this could be extended to any money earned from drugs also so that the families of drug dealers were also included, he demanded.
The Confiscation of Property of Drug Dealers Act was part of the PPP's manifesto in 2012 assembly elections, in which the party did not win any seat, including Manpreet himself.
He said "In the first step, all political parties must dissociate themselves from drug dealers and peddlers and take a pledge that they will not distribute or accept intoxicants during electioneering," he said.
People involved directly or indirectly in the trade should not be given tickets, Badal said, adding that once political clout was over and drug dealers would have no political patronage and police won't hesitate to take action against them.
"The PPP had stayed away from such people during 2012 polls, and would continue to do so. However, it was time that other parties also follow our path," Manpreet added.
He also called upon Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to convene an all-party meeting to evolve a consensus against drugs.
He accused SAD-BJP of not taking action against drug dealers.
Badal said, "If the BJP was serious, then why does it only hold rallies but does not withdraw support to the Akali Dal whom the party accuses of being complicit," the PPP asked.
