The spectre of death in the aftermath of the ponzi scheme scam continued to haunt West Bengal with yet another agent found hanging near his home at Shantipur in Nadia district today, taking the toll to 13.
Sufal Dhara, an agent of Rose Valley, was found hanging from a tree in the garden behind his house this morning, police said.
A father of two minor sons, Dhara had gone missing since last night. 30-year-old Dhara had been working as an agent of Rose Valley for the past several years, and had collected about Rs nine lakh from investors. After the recent meltdown, he was facing mounting pressure to refund the money.
Dhara had deposited the certificates of investors wanting to redeem their money to the company but as the money was not given to them, Dhara faced frequent abuses and threats and was suffering from depression, his family said.
The Rose Valley agent, who had been working for several other ponzi schemes, had sought money from his father Raghunath who last night assured to help him, they said.
Prior to this latest incident, 12 agents, officials of chit fund companies and investors ended their lives, while a director of a ponzi scheme company has been killed.
Yesterday, an agent of a ponzi scheme was found hanging in his home at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district, while a 16-year-old daily wage labourer had attempted to end his life by consuming pesticide at his home near Jalpaiguri town after losing money in Saradha chit fund scam.
