Noting the threat posed by fake or forged documentation for mobile connections, a top Haryana Police official today called for better coordination between security agencies and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
Inspector General of Police, CID, Anil Kumar Rao was presiding over a meeting of chief executive officers, chief operating officers, general managers and nodal officers of TSPs of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, at Panchkula near here.
He said the TSPs have been requested to adhere to the instructions issued by the Department of Telecommunications regarding issuance of prepaid mobile connections.

Rao expressed his concern that despite repeated
instructions in the past that no mobile connections or SIM cards should be made available, sold and activated without ascertaining identity of the subscriber, the malpractice was still going on.
"It has been noticed that criminals are using prepaid mobile SIMs purchased from other states for committing crime. After committing the crime, they dump the SIMs which makes tracing of such cases very difficult," the IG said in the meeting.
In view of this, TSPs were once again told to ensure that strict action be taken against the retailers, dealers and distributors who were indulging in such activities, the statement said.
All the TSPs assured that they will sensitise their staff that nobody gets prepaid mobile connections with fake addresses or forged documents, it said.
