Bhujbal demands scrapping of MoU with Gujarat on river-link

NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal today demanded that the memorandum of understanding with the Gujarat government on the Damanganga-Pinjal river interlinking project should be scrapped to ensure that the water which rightfully belongs to Maharashtra is not diverted.
The Assembly was adjourned for ten minutes due to heated argument over the issue between Irrigation Minister Girish Mahajan and NCP MLA Satish Patil, both from Jalgaon district of north Maharashtra.
Bhujbal was speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address.
The MoU was signed by the then Chief Ministers Ashok Chavan and Narendra Modi on May 3, 2010.

BJP's Chalisgaon MLA Unmesh Patil objected to Bhujbal's demand, while NCP's Erandol MLA Satish Patil argued in favour of scrapping it.
After the House resumed proceedings, NCP group leader Jayant Patil objected to Mahajan's conduct and asked the Speaker to intervene.

The Speaker Haribhau Bagde reprimanded the Minister.
Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil criticised the government for failure to prevent the murder of communist leader Govind Pansare in Kolhapur last month.
He also criticised the government over resumption of duties by the Mumbai University's Vice Chancellor Rajan Velukar, against whom the Bombay High Court has passed some adverse remarks.
