Former Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who is in judicial custody after his arrest in a money laundering case last year, has moved a court in Mumbai seeking permission to cast vote in the July 17 presidential election.
"The court will hear our application on Friday," Bhujbal's lawyer Salabh Saxena told PTI.
The application said that "each vote by an MLA in Maharashtra is equivalent to 175 votes" in the electoral college which may make difference if there is a close contest.
Bhujbal, the MLA from Yeola in Nashik district, is at number 2,731 in voters' list, Saxena said.
The senior NCP leader and former PWD minister was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the Maharashtra Sadan scam and Kalina land allotment case last year.
