The Bihar government today ordered probe by a senior officer into complaints of police and power board officials harassing citizens of Nepura village in Nalanda district recently on pretext of collecting electricity bill.
Following hue and cry raised by opposition BJP over the incident in the Legislative Assembly, minister in-charge of Home Vijay Chaudhary announced that the government would get the incident probed by a senior officer.
The minister told the House that officials found guilty of harassing citizens would be punished.
Senior BJP member Prem Kumar raised the issue during Zero Hour and sought a judicial probe into the April 10 incident in Nepura village of Nalanda which is a native place of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Soon BJP members rose from their seat and later trooped into well shouting anti-government slogans.
The issue came up in Legislative Council too.
Ruling JD(U) member Neeraj Kumar mentioned the incident through call attention notice and alleged harassment of some women citizens by the police. He alleged that police entered into houses without women police personnel and behaved in an unruly manner despite the fact that the residents had proper power connection and had paid the bill.
He sought a probe into the incident and action against guilty policemen.
